WELCOMING DINNER CELEBRATES THE ARRIVAL OF ASEAN DELEGATES IN SABAH

Kota Kinabalu, 13 July – A vibrant and colorful Welcoming Dinner was held last night to mark the arrival of ASEAN delegates, signalling a warm beginning to the ASEAN Youth Volunteers Program taking place in Kg. Kobuni, Inanam, Sabah.

The event, held at Putera Ballroom, Kg. Nelayan Bukit Padang, was enlivened by a captivating traditional dance performance by the renowned cultural group Era Budaya, brought by the Sabah Convention Bureau. The performance showcased the uniqueness and rich diversity of Sabah’s cultural heritage.

Representing the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Mr. Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan, President of the Sabah Youth Council, delivered a welcoming speech, expressing appreciation for the delegates’ presence and emphasizing hopes that the program would serve as a platform to strengthen ties among ASEAN youth and foster regional unity.

“Today, we gather not as separate nations, but as One ASEAN — united by shared values, committed to peace, and inspired by the future we are building together,” he said in his speech.
The event was also attended by senior government officials, local volunteers, and representatives from participating ASEAN countries. The evening was filled with a spirit of camaraderie and excitement for the upcoming activities scheduled during the program.

The Welcoming Dinner is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen youth diplomacy and to promote Malaysia — particularly Sabah — as a progressive and inclusive hub for regional cooperation.
